Why you have to Learn Twi with Nkyea Twi Primer

If you use the right course, learning the Twi language can be very easy. That is why we developed Nkyea Twi Primer, the simplest course that takes into consideration how a language should be learnt. We did not use the word and phrase repetition used in the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) CDs. We know their method will not help you much with learning the Twi language as it does other languages. We live in Ghana and have been teaching Twi lessons for a while so we know a lot of foreigners who bought FSI courses, learned them like a religion and when they arrived here, they cannot even say ‘How are you doing?’ in Twi let alone say it with the correct Twi accent. We end up teaching them the basic Twi alphabet, grammar, situation where they can be used and the proper accent.

In all this, we found out that for the learner to remember the words and phrases, it does not help a lot when he just hears them on a CD, but he should be able to record his own voice and compare with how native speakers say them. This is one key feature we thought about and built into Nkyea Twi Primer. You will not find this feature in any other Twi language course on the Internet. Our course does not just blurt out words and phrases at you, it helps you to acquire the correct accent and remember the grammar and vocabulary by recording and comparing with how Ike says them.

  • I really want to learn Fante but I could not find courses in Fante. I decided to study twi and later learn the differences if I could communicate in twi. Is this a good approach? Is there enough interest to develop a course in Fante?

    • Isaac Ameyaw says:

Yes, it’s a reasonable approach considering the fact that both dialects come from the same Akan language. When you learn Twi you will be able to understand what a Fante person says even though the accent is different.
